In fabled Stone Town, history appears to stand still. It is the oldest city and the cultural heart of Zanzibar, with little changed over the past 200 years. It is a place of winding alleys, bustling bazaars, mosques and grand Arab houses whose original owners vied with one another over the extravagance of their dwellings. This one-upmanship is particularly reflected in the brass-studded, carved wooden doors – there are more than 500 different examples of this handiwork around Stone Town and one could spend many idle hours and days just wandering through the fascinating labyrinth of narrow streets and alleyways.
On the Stone Town Tour, you will be met by your Zanzibarian guide and taken through the winding alleyways while stopping at historical sites such as the House of Wonders, the Palace Museum (People's Palace), Freddie Mercury House, the Arab Fort, Dr Livingston's House and the old Slave Market site. You will also see Zanzibar's bustling outdoor market, ornately carved and studded doors, two cathedrals and countless mosques.
